Eagle Farm Racecourse is one of the first few race tracks in Australia. It has been holding races for a long time. Unlike other tracks, it is right handed and has a total circumference that could measure up to 2027 meters and about 434 meters of track that is straight. Eagle Farm Racecourse is located across another race track, Doomben Racetrack. The Eagle Farm Racecourse also features something different from common race tracks. It also features training tracks as well as a swimming pool. These training tracks are used for slow paced walking and can also be used for pacework that serve as warm-up before any Eagle Farm Races.

Racing in Eagle Farm Racecourse

The largest racing event held in the Eagle Farm Racecourse is the Brisbane Winter Carnival. Brisbane Winter Carnival is usually held between the months of May and June. The carnival itself has many races and the biggest race held on the track is the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap race. This is a 1,400 m race attracting many racers and race enthusiasts all over the country. Prizes for this specific race reached up to $1 million dollars of pot money and almost $50,000 worth of trophies.

Another major race in the race track is the Queensland Oaks. This is another Group 1 race but is a 2,400 m race. Most of the participants in this race are three year old fillies. This race has a $400,000 top prize including trophies. The TJ Smith is another race held in the Eagle Farm Racecourse. The prize for this race usually reaches up to half a million dollars. This race is 1,600 meters and is open for fillies two years old and older. Another Group 1 race held in the race track is the Queensland Derby. This is a 2,400 meter race for three years and older. The prize money for this race can reach about $500,000 including the trophy awards.

The last major race held in Eagle Farm Racecourse is the Winter Stakes. It is a 1,400 race for the Group 1 weight category. This race is both for fillies and mares and has a prize worth close to $500,000.

Stradbroke Handicap, Queensland Derby, Queensland Oaks, The TJ Smith and Winter Stakes are the major Eagle Farm Races held. Aside from these major races, there are minor races on different days of the week that usually starts after noon.

Getting to the Eagle Farm Racecourse

Getting to the Eagle Farm Races is not a problem because you can choose between private and public transport. For those who want to go to the race track, the options include the train, the bus and car.

For people who want to ride the train, they can find that the nearest station to Eagle Farm Racecourse is the Ascot station. This station is on the Doomben line and very near the race track. For schedules of the train, they can check the QLD Translink website.

Taking the bus is another option in coming to the Eagle Farm Racecourse. There are several routes that pass by the race track. Route 300, 301 and 305 all pass by Brisbane City to Ascot.

Taking the car is another option when going to Eagle Farm Racecourse. The track is located about 8 kilometers north of the Brisbane CBD. This is about 25 minutes when starting from Kingston Smith Drive.
