The prestigious Rosehill Races track is known to be the specialist track. The track forms a box-like shape and is fully-grassed that highlights four long sweeping corners. It has a circumference measuring 2,048 meters and the straight measures 408 meters. The rails are difficult to lead especially if the rails are out but is said to be favorable to pace runners when the rail is four meters or more. Rosehill Racecourse has four major track courses, which are the Inside Grass measuring 1538 x27m, Slow Cinders Track measuring 1357 x7m, Fast Cinders Track measuring 1436 x7m, and Sand Track measuring 1712 x6m.

Among the major features of the Rosehill Races courses are the following:

  • 1100m.The barrier stalls are formed inside the main course positioned in an angled chute.  Its inside barriers are difficult to run but its first run is short and easy.
  • 1200m. This begins at the chute end at the race course center. The first turn is a 500m straight run. Winning is possible from the outside gate.
  • 1300m & 1450m. This begins in the back straight of the main course. 350 run to the first corner and have an advantage of inside barrier.
  • 1400m & 1450m. This also has an inside barrier advantage but located in the back straight.
  • 1500m. This ends in a back straight but starts in small chute. Most winners start inside barrier 11.
  • 1750 &1900m. 2000m. This offers an advantage to inside barriers. The barriers are situated on the courses left side after the winning posts.
  • 2000m. Almost identical to 17000m and 1900m, this starts at the end of the chi.
  • 2400m. This is located at the left course but often, winners come out inside barrier 11.
  • The beginning is on the course proper which is on the top of home straight. Barriers are needed due to long distances.

Major Races At Rosehill

Rosehill Races continues to be a home for numerous prestigious horse racing events since 1885. The Rosehill Autumn Racing Carnival is one of the most highlighted events in the Rosehill’s racing calendar. In this event, 18 Groups are dispersed for over three weeks of action. The prize that is given away on this event is $11M. However, the highlight of the Autumn race is the Golden Slipper, which gives away trainers and racers a prize worth $3.5M.  It is a 1,200 meter race for two-year-olds.

Another major event hosted here is the Rosehill Guineas. This race is a 2000-meter race for three-year-old race horses. The take home prize of this event is $500,000. Furthermore, the 1500 meter George Ryder Stakes is held here during April. This is a horse race for weight-for-age and has a prize of $405,000. Other highlighted events here are the following

  • Coolmore Stud Classic – a 1500 meter race for fillies and mares
  • Queen of The Turf Stakes – also a 1500 meter race of at least 3 year old fillies and mares.
  • Golden Rose Stakes – a 1400 meter race set weight event for three year olds and the only race not done during the Autum Racing Carnival.

About Rosehill Races

Rosehill Races opened up since 1885 and is located at Western Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Specifically, the Rosehill track is situated about 20 minutes west of the Central Business District of Sydney.

Before, the racecourse is operated solely by The Sydney Turf Club. But since February 2011, the Australian jockey Clun have merged with them and a new racing club was born, which is the Australian Turf Club.

Rosehill Racecourse isnt only a home for horse racing fanatics, trainers and the like but also welcomes non-racing visitors, too. It has a modern J.R. Fleming Stand for such kind of visitors to dine and watch. Outside, there is a major function venue which is the Grand Pavilion. Here, other events such as conferences, award ceremonies, exhibitions, and the like are held.

To get here, visitors can take either a car or train. It is only about 17kms far from Sydney CBD by car or Western Motorway. Moreover, the Rosehill Races is the only racing venue in Sydney that is directly accessed by train.
